When we seek solace.
Listened while writing this post, try while reading it :o)
This post is the sixteenth in a series which looks at the evolution of what is left of what we call democracy in my nation. These posts are best read in the order they were published. Starting at the 6th post in the series, for example, will mean that nothing makes sense to you, dear reader. Happy reading!
Suffering has been the subject of many of the posts on this blog, but in this one we will be focussing more specifically on mental suffering. When we are confronted with a difficult problem, whether in our personal or professional lives, in most cases we immediately seek the motivation we need to find a solution. Whether it’s passing a test at school, gaining financial compensation (directly or indirectly), or even if it is for pleasure or in the spirit of competition, some sort of situation like the above must exist in order to initiate the process of finding a solution.
The resolution of a problem usually entails a certain effort being made, however, the resolution of a more complex problem can sometimes mean suffering. It’s a bit like if we were to compare a fairly easy physical exercise with one that requires all the strength we possess in order to achieve it. Naturally, we attempt to avoid this sort of hardship. We give up and find excuses, or we delegate the problem to someone else, eager to forget all about it.
It is in this context that the concept of a figurehead is maintained. It exists to sort out the problems which are too complex for the people themselves to deal with. People with a capital ‘P’ – the proverbial group which represents the sum of all our individual passivity.
Until next time…
