When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the twelfth of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
So what about this axis of freedom in the context of the current crisis? Let’s take the principle of quarantine, for example. Quarantine is a measure which, at first sight, takes away individual freedom. On the other hand, it makes common areas potentially less risky, as long as people can still access them. Just like police presence and other road controls give the majority of us confidence when we move from point A to point B, for a neighbourhood militia to offer a sense of trust, it is important to keep in mind that medicine can become a drug and lead to addiction.
OK, so here we are. A System will always tend to favour controls over freedom, but a loss of freedom has significant consequences and opens the door to abuse of power and a weakening of the mind. The weaker you become, the more difficult it will be to easily and painlessly backtrack. All addiction takes root in our bodies and minds and ties us up with its bonds that are increasingly tightening like a “Shigawire”.
To be continued tomorrow…
