When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the thirteenth of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
Given that fear is the main motivator of inertia or irrational behaviour, that risk generates fear, that courage is something that develops, but also that deteriorates over time, individual freedom has it tough. It takes effort, something we don’t like to do. The easy option is inertia. If nothing else moves, it strengthens us in the short term. Even absolute autonomy seems interesting, but here is some news: The world was created not on individuals working in parallel, but on individuals working in series. Interdependence is the mother of freedom. What a paradox!
Here’s the reason why real politicians are so careful about changing things. Every change must come in its own time. A change may see the contrary happen a few decades later if the customs have changed. However, if we try a change that does not match up with the population, beware of the backlash, it could cost you your head (figuratively). So this is an explosive cocktail, an invisible enemy, an infiltration of our ranks without the carrier even knowing it, a fragile health and economic system.
To be continued tomorrow…
