When the world isn’t always round
Imagine a world where we could choose who we lived with. Let’s think about that. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Well, if you think that’s possible, you’re probably an emperor or dictator in the making. The problem with that is that 1. We don’t live in a magical world. 2. The people you would choose might not necessarily choose you. What a shame, no? Not quite.
Freedom exists at many levels and situations like the many shootings, including the one at Polytechnique Montréal, sometimes bring about radical solutions. Unfortunately, human beings do not cope well with radical changes. Despite the fact that we are relatively flexible, this flexibility has its limits.
Recently, Quebec government officials said they wanted to make people declare that they are pregnant, in order to keep an eye on bad families. This situation really makes you think, whether you agree with it or not. Do not believe that simply because people have managed to get into a position in an organisation that you respect, that they automatically receive an injection of knowledge and that they can replace your judgement.
Your judgement will always be the best judgement for you because it sets you free. This means that you must deliberately allow yourself to be influenced by all of humanity to make your decisions. Isolation of thought is the sister of ignorance.
