When you choose the other one.
This is the nineteenth in a series of posts reflecting on the importance of our actions and what we do to contribute to something, and ideally, something greater. These posts should be read in order of publication. Starting with number six, for example, would make no sense to the reader. Happy reading!
This is how our third choice becomes clear. This choice is characterized by its total devotion to others. I want to be extremely clear on this point. Devotion is not to our parents more than to our children, to our family more than to our neighbors, to our fellow citizens more than to people of other nations, but to all in a fair and generous way. To make this work, we must adopt a way of giving before receiving.
It starts with exemplary citizenship. My next series of posts will offer you several examples of how to create a civilized social code of conduct that is focused on reinforcement. The establishment of a gentlemanly attitude for all where our neighbor comes before us, because without us, our neighbor has nothing.
This approach encourages kindness and generosity. It nourishes the soul as no personal victory can, like no drug can simulate ecstasy. Its disappearance causes a loss so painful that it will drag our entire society into a dark age where the individual lives for their own survival, ceases to evolve and begins the tragic journey of regression.
To be continued…
