When politics returns
Needless to say, things always come in threes. Let’s see why I’m still talking about politics today. Well, yes, it is Election Day in Canada today, and like any good citizen, I did my duty. But is this a good enough reason to do your duty? For several people I know, the choices contravene in terms of democracy. This is not specific to Canada. I must admit that I don’t really know what to think about it, but let’s think about it nonetheless.
Firstly, I wondered if the voting system was well and truly the correct one. Before we can judge this, we must still set ourselves some criteria to determine whether we have achieved our goals. It’s a bit like climate change, when will we know that we have completed our long journey towards redemption? In fact, I’m all for experimentation. But how long does it take to find out if we have got the desired results? In Canada, a mandate lasts 4 years. A mandate goes rather quickly when it comes to governing a country, at least depending on the scope of governance that must be covered. But is this number of years adequate?
