When you ask: How many feet in a mile?
Here is a small series of posts that cover the most asked questions on Google. Most of these questions won’t be answered here. However, I might, for fun, give an answer if I personally know it. It’s mostly to have fun with why people ask so many questions.
Let’s do a review. I think this is the last question on this subject. Regarding conversion tables, etc. I think I’ve said everything on the subject in the previous posts. So, I’ll leave us with a few things to remember about the conversion formulas for the imperial and metric (international) systems.
Weight
Ounces and pounds are the same for the American and British imperial systems. The main difference is in the ton. The British ton is 240 pounds heavier than the American ton. The American ton is 2000 pounds and one pound is 16 ounces.
Volume
The British and Americans are far apart here. Although the division is very similar, the British ounce is smaller than the American ounce, by only 5%. The British cup, on the other hand, is larger. 10 British ounces. The American cup is only 8 ounces. The pint, quart and gallon are divided in the same way. Phew!
Distance
In this aspect, we are blessed. Both countries have the same measurement system.
International
The international system is based on constants that are both small and large in scale. Speed of light, the potential of a photon, etc. The other particularity of the international system is that it is based on a decimal conversion scale, i.e. the official unit of each aspect is divided into multiples of 10.
