When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the tenth of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
Yesterday, we were talking about a local government that could impose a means of control to ensure compliance with one or more regulations or laws. Let’s explore this a little, and don’t worry, we’re coming to COVID-19 soon. 😊 The example of noise is relatively trivial, and we could say that its impacts on health are relatively minor in the stated context. What about speed on the roads? A driver becomes a potential danger if they use their vehicle in a dangerous manner. In order to protect us all, law enforcement carries out control activities. These activities come at a cost. In Quebec, vehicle registration and driver’s licences include a kind of “insurance” to finance compensation for victims of road accidents.
This all becomes very complex because you inevitably fall into a spiral of judgment with a strong subjective tinge. The most effective solution would be absolute control over drivers and their vehicles. Or collecting all the data to be able to identify individuals. After all, who wants to hide if they have nothing to hide? You get the feeling something seems off, don’t you?
To be continued tomorrow…
