When change is difficult
Yesterday, I was thinking about the path we map out in order to evolve. Let’s see where it takes us. My final thought touched on the feeling of a paradox. A paradox that we could go through a transformation without other people’s feedback, but this represents too diverse a risk, making us a “stranger”. Despite the fact that many people have already made this life choice, we are still a social animal that protects itself in a group.
We are keen to protect children, our own children of course, but also others’, through empathy. It therefore seems fundamentally important for us, so much so that our conscience seems to whisper it, to validate the path we take and our choices with those who share our values.
That’s when it happens, and that’s what makes family reunions so exciting. For many, they are a source of stress, for others, a source of lively exchanges about the way we see life and the choices we make. We often receive approval for these choices, which leads us to believe that we made the right decisions. That is one of the reasons why family and close friends are so valuable, at this time of year and throughout the rest of the year.
