When you ask: How old is Donald Trump?

Here is a small series of posts that cover the most asked questions on Google. Most of these questions won’t be answered here. However, I might, for fun, give an answer if I personally know it. It’s mostly to have fun with why people ask so many questions.

Wow, the fact that this question is number 19 in the ranking seems incredible to me. Is it possible that the 45th President of the United States was so popular that he overshadows a large portion of the questions asked on Google? That’s impressive. However, if you want to know how old someone is, here’s a little trick.

If you know someone’s date of birth, you just have to subtract their year of birth from the current year. Easy, right? However, we quickly realize that our mental math is quite weak. Take Donald, for example, his birth year is 1946. A trick for me is to find the difference between the year of birth and the year 2000. For Donald, that’s 54 years. To get there, you can add up. It takes 4 to get to 50, then 50 to get to 2000. Then I add the year we are in, which is 21, so that is 75. So in two steps, we add 20 to get 74, then we add 1, which leaves us with 75. So that’s a pretty simple and quick three-step calculation. Why is that? Because we avoid blockages. Do you know those moments when you’re trying to figure out how to do the math? That’s where you lose time.

Finally, to complete the whole thing, all we need to know is whether or not the person has had their birthday yet this year. In the case of Mr Trump, his birthday is in June, so it’s safe to say he’s not yet 75.

There you go!
