When you ask: When is Mother’s Day?
Here is a small series of posts that cover the most asked questions on Google. Most of these questions won’t be answered here. However, I might, for fun, give an answer if I personally know it. It’s mostly to have fun with why people ask so many questions.
The concept of Mother’s Day is a mystery to me. It comes from a past that I don’t think was ever really applicable. First of all, who is a mother? What does the concept of mother under this holiday define? Is it the biological mother? If so, hello, adopted people. If it’s the person who raised you with “a mother’s love”, what about same-sex male couples?
In my opinion, Mother’s Day, whose name should probably be changed, is a celebration of unconditional love. That love, bordering on obligation, that ensures that a parent will always love their child. A parent who will always listen to his or her feelings. A role model that will make the child an empathetic and sensitive person. This sensitivity is essential to human beings because it is the only language of childhood and adolescence. Reasoning comes later, that’s just how it is.
So Parents’ Love Day would be a better name for me, considering I don’t think it’s related to carrying a child for 9 months, although it is an accomplishment and a moment to cherish.
As for the date, how hard can it be to put a calendar on the wall?! It’s the second Sunday in May, for goodness sake! And before you ask, Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June!
