When you have to pay the price for your choices.
I’d encourage you to read yesterday’s post before this one.
To conclude on tobacco, you should know that, like insurers, my logic believes that a smoker should have to consider a penalty on their health care. That said, this point in particular, putting your own health and life at risk, is at the heart of our Quebec problem. Since our health care system is available to all citizens without exception, the cost of health care resulting from their toxic choices weighs heavily. If we could address this issue, we could revisit our approach to public health.
Now, going back to our epic struggle, how many citizens and how much time and energy does it take to block or reverse a decision made by an elected leader? If we accept a decision today, in a matter of seconds, can that decision be reversed just as easily? If the human in a position of power does not change their mental model, are we prisoners of it? Who can stand up to this titan? The international community, as we can see, is not interested in this kind of problem and will try to punish the offender as best it can, but this will almost always have consequences on the already subjected population.
To be continued…
