When you must be aware of the world.

I’d encou­rage you to read yesterday’s post before this one.

In a poli­ti­cal context, the context of the fear of dying is the most power­ful. On one hand, we have citi­zens who want to sur­vive, parents who want their chil­dren to sur­vive, chil­dren who want their parents to sur­vive, and so on. In Que­bec, we have amen­ded the law to increase the flexi­bi­li­ty of medi­cal aid in dying. Howe­ver, even this situa­tion dis­turbs me in because it makes us rea­lize that we are, in fact, not free to die. How is this pos­sible? I do won­der. If, for example, reli­gious people don’t wish to use the medi­cal aid in dying ser­vice, so be it, but how can they object to others using it? How can a per­son who decides to announce their inten­tion to die to their loved ones not be satis­fied? Doesn’t free­dom go from crea­tion or birth until death?

It can the­re­fore be said that if anyone in a socie­ty can oppose a person’s wish to die, there’s no need to consi­der any other option than sur­vi­val at all costs. A lea­der can the­re­fore confi­dent­ly base their deci­sions stron­gly on the sur­vi­val of the popu­la­tion without even consi­de­ring asking anyone else’s opinion.
