When you take a step backwards.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This is the seventeenth in a series of posts reflecting on our willingness to remember and the quality of that knowledge. These posts should be read in order of publication. Starting with number six, for example, would make no sense to the reader. Happy reading!
So we were talking about escaping. Obviously, running away does not solve the situation. In the event that we would simply flee in the face of conflicts and differences of opinion, we would all end up alone, each in our own corner.
As for hiding, of course, many today use this technique. Lying about our opinions is a form of avoidance. A form of camouflage to buy tranquility. It is interesting in its own time, but becomes toxic for everyone in the long run.
It can therefore be said that it takes a clever mix of all these ingredients to arrive at a settlement. Socializing, not holding back to deliver a verbal joust, but staying casual by proposing it first, for example. Faced with an impasse, fleeing or hiding are still possible, as long as fleeing does not allow victory to be conceded. “We agree to disagree”, as they say. And that’s fine.
Returning to our egalitarian dilemma, socialization becomes an important part of understanding adherence to the social contract. Obviously, history is full of civilizations that have disappeared, stripped of their possessions or because of divergent deep moral values. Let’s never wish for that again.
To be continued…
