When perfection doesn’t exist.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the thirteenth in a series of posts about a reflection on our ability to socially evolve. These posts should be read in the order of their publication. For example, starting with the 6th would make no sense to the reader. Happy reading!
And yes, it’s hard to accept the fact that perfection doesn’t exist. But isn’t this perfection subjective even in its purest objectivity? What is cold for one can be hot for another? Innocent? Is it really? Humans have defined their own scales for measuring nature and have attached labels to them, but since these labels are quite objective in their specific context, they are perceived in different ways in all individuals.
If we assume that natural measures come from human definitions, although accurate, they are still a convention based on the repeatable and demonstrable. What about the realm of inwardness? Thoughts, ideas, emotions. Measuring instruments for these do not exist, it is impossible to have a universal notion of emotions and motivation. The results are still a good measure of what was present at a given time. Our discomfort in not being able to predict things often outweighs reason and we try by more than dubious means to provide answers and explanations for this discomfort.
When obscurantism overshadows light, it will always be wiser to accept the imperfection of the situation than to try to fill it up with artifice.
To be continued…
