When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the last of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
So what do we do now? Well, we know that despite everything, we will accept many small sacrifices before going out on the streets to scream out how unhappy we are. But what about individual freedom? Well, our leaders are doing all of this precisely to protect it. Of course, I’m talking about the leaders of nations based on market economies. Let the farmer concentrate on his crops, let the livestock farmer concentrate on his animals, let the miner concentrate on extracting ore, in other words, let everyone resume their activities as Adam Smith so aptly described in The Wealth of Nations.
It is only by resuming our respective activities that we will once again find an acceptable world, and know this, it takes only about 6 months for the level of satisfaction of a situation to become the new standard. That’s why many people in precarious conditions are often happier than wealthy people. There are so many opportunities to improve your life when you have little.
Individual freedom doesn’t come from wealth, but from the pleasure of being free, or less free, because the opposite is usually impossible to achieve.
