When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the fifth of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
This freedom, therefore, comes with two sides. The more we increase it, the greater our level of tolerance must be. The stronger our ability to face our doubts and fears must be. To live and let live must also mean to let live and live. When our integrity and our future seem to be threatened by the actions of others, how can we protect it? You could say that above all, with great freedom comes a responsibility of the freedom of others. You could even say that being free is only possible in a world where everyone feels free. How do you do that?
Everyone is different. Everyone has their own fears. In a free world, everyone has the right, with the same amount of effort, to the equivalent of what you have. We’re not talking about socialism or communism or capitalism here, but rather about humanism. Let’s look at a concrete example to clear things up. You find an apple tree in a public forest. This apple tree is of a particularly rare variety, but it’s nothing miraculous. Before taking your apples or even just one of them, here’s the reasoning. Are there enough apples (it could just be one quarter) for my whole community? (Those who could logically benefit from these apples, in this case, we will not think about shipping apples to another continent, or even to a neighbouring city.)
To be continued tomorrow…
