When you wish you had a crystal ball, or not.
I listened to this while writing this post, try it while you read :o)
This post is the second of a series of fifteen posts about freedom during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
Health services are currently being put to the test. The protection against our body’s malfunctions, thus lowering our performance or even leading to death, is probably what we fear most consciously. As Smith said, “Men of the most robust make, observe that in looking upon sore eyes they often feel a very sensible soreness in their own, which proceeds from the same reason; that organ being in the strongest man more delicate, than any other part of the body is in the weakest.” We are aware of the suffering that our body can cause for us, so we are conscious, to different degrees of sympathy, of that of others.
Our health services are therefore essential, but too often taken for granted. Like any system, they are subject to the law of supply and demand. Even if they can be limited by any regulation, they could try, like the wise service provider that they are, to anticipate demand and prepare an adequate and lucrative offer. A subtle power play could be amplified for the next few years.
To be continued tomorrow…
