When the world stops turning
Listened while writing this post, try while reading it :o)
This post is the ninth of a series of ten posts about certain aspects of our lives during the COVID-19 crisis. These posts must be read in order, starting with the 6th post would make absolutely no sense to the reader. Enjoy reading and above all, enjoy reflecting.
Having these indicators in hand, the most skilful politicians will use them to turn people against each other. With a skilful hand, they will draw up a comparison with the weakest nations when necessary, and vice versa in other situations. Citizens’ flow of emotions, which are far from any kind of rationality, will fuel what will eventually risk intoxicating the whole nation.
In order to perfect our analysis, we must consider the moral aspects of such a crisis. It would be unrealistic to believe that the average citizen could have read Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments and realise that his reactions are about as natural as they are useless. This kind of ordeal requires adequate physical strength, but also a superior force of mind. This is where the System becomes our Achilles heel. How can we hope that a human who has been brainwashed by laziness will be able to go through an ordeal that requires the exact opposite? Could we imagine soldiers, champions or conquerors carrying out their exploits with tender words, pity, hugs and love for their enemy? There is a time for demonstrations of love and a time for prohibiting them. We are currently engaged in a biological war against an enemy in order to protect the sweetness of life. On the other hand, we must earn this sweetness, and refraining from fighting could mean a significant decline in the quality of life that is just around the corner.
