When the System counterattacks
Finally, a new threat to fight. Let’s have a think about it. COVID-19, or Coronavirus, is a new enemy to go up against. It is rocking the foundations of the System, and the System really doesn’t like it. It is, therefore, doing everything it can to point the finger at humanity’s enemy and create a deep-rooted fear in the hearts of its followers so that they can use all means at their disposal to stop this biological terrorist. But is it really the System that’s behind this?
In my very personal analysis, I would tend to refer to Wikipedia’s list of epidemics. Let’s travel back in time and compare some epidemics. The most recent one was the Zika virus. I don’t know if you remember, (anyway, don’t trust your memories, I’ve taken the time to check, do it too) but social networks were on fire. Then we go back to the Ebola virus, again, general fire on social media. ~11,300 dead, but mainly in West Africa. Then in 2012, a previous form of a Coronavirus (which is a denomination of a group of viruses, by the way). A little quieter and more distant in our memories, isn’t it? Then comes the greatest of the greatest of the 21st century. I’ll not say the name, but it killed ~203,000 people around the world.
So my mind’s analysis would be reduced to this: Do social networks not only aggravate the impact of these types of crises on the System? In 2009, Twitter was only at 6% of its users that it has today, and who besides geeks were even interested?
