When the end is near
Thank you, Einstein. Time is relative. Let’s think about that for a moment. The good thing about the end of the world is that it is happening all the time. And yes, every single second, the world shuts down and a new one opens under our feet, which in turn shuts down the next moment and so on! Therefore, why would we, at all costs, want a well-thought-out end of the world?
To give us a sense of control over our future? The future is unpredictable in nature. There will always be some uncertainty, except in matters of faith. Why contradict a believer after all? But that’s not the point. Not knowing is the height of uncertainty, so let’s start by giving a name and shape to these mysterious threats.
Giving more substance to the end of the world becomes comforting. Whether it is related to climate, to beings coming from elsewhere, to extreme natural phenomena here or beyond, the process remains only natural because, if the presence of fear is essential to our survival, its absence could well lead us to our loss much more quickly than a mere end of the world.
