When you have to start all over again
Do you not think things are moving fast enough? Let’s have a look. In an article in The Atlantic magazine, Patrick Collison and Michael Nielsen come to the conclusion that despite massive investments in dollars and time, science is not achieving the desired results. Here’s what I think, and careful, I have no boundaries.
First, the System (yes, again, but take some time to go and look at my definition of the System) does not necessarily need science, or whatever it is, to improve. In fact, no, that’s false. The System will always favour our faults. The easy solution or the one that gives us pleasure will always be the favoured path to take. Delicious dishes that we order without having to prepare them, giving and receiving satisfaction with the smallest amount of effort. If a problem can be removed more easily than it would be to solve it, why bother? Sex on demand, photo filters that flatter our vanity and stories from social networks that push us towards a certain appearance, even going so far as to lie to everyone, and often to ourselves.
In his Theory Of Moral Sentiments, Adam Smith described that our empathy is quickly reduced by interpersonal distance. We’ve let ourselves go, and getting back into shape to deal with the problems of the 21st century is going to hurt a lot.
