When you have to recognise the effort
Kudos to Bell Canada for that great philanthropic marketing move. Let’s think about it. Well, you already know, this tag and especially this campaign supports the mental illness that we have already talked about on this blog. But how is it going this year? I haven’t done any research for previous years, but this year, Bell has confirmed that they will donate $0.05 for each use of the hashtag on different social networks.
Obviously, I won’t be keeping the books to see if they’re meeting that commitment, but you would think it would make a lot of money. The thing that really struck me, and the reason I’m talking about this tag, is that it caused a tidal wave on Twitter. Rarely – and I can tell you that I don’t remember, unfortunately, I have to take my own word for it :o) – during the past year, I don’t remember a tag of this nature having so much importance.
Now, beyond the donations made to the cause, I would like to see the accounts of all this, i.e., how much such a campaign really costs and how much it brings in. What are the pros and cons? Maybe this act of transparency, if there is a positive result, would encourage others to do the same, who knows?
