When a change does not lead to the expected results
Okay, it’s the first day implementing yesterday’s change and I don’t have anything extraordinary for us to get our teeth into. Why is that? Have you ever wished you had something that you couldn’t have? One thing that is relatively common to everyone is the desire to be able to know the future to a certain extent.
Not being able to know what the future holds can rather make us “lose our cool”, to otherwise avoid being rude. Yet, based on our focal point, we are able to predict the future. If I loosen my grip on a ball, it will fall. If I say the name of a person nearby, I’ll get their attention. If I go to bed in inadequate conditions, I will have a lack of energy in the morning.
What we do notice, however, is that the further away the subject is from us, in time, space or its complexity, the less we are able to decipher its possible futures. Aside from sci-fi characters such as Herbert’s Mentats or game champions like Kasparov or Sedol, foresight is an ability we simply don’t have. Will AI finally allow us to fulfil this long-suffering deficiency?
