When we seek to recognise value
What do Ebola Fighters, Barack Obama, American soldiers and Greta Thunberg all have in common? Let’s see. Well, they’ve all been chosen as Person of the Year by Time magazine. According to Wikipedia, the definition of this title is as follows: “Person of the Year (called Man of the Year or Woman of the Year until 1999) is an annual issue of the United States news magazine Time that features and profiles a person, a group, an idea, or an object that ‘for better or for worse… has done the most to influence the events of the year’.”
Take the time to read the article, it’s fascinating. We can say, amongst other things, that this nomination ignited the web. Whether we agree with her or not, little Thunberg leaves no stone unturned. Some are outraged by her message, others by the impression that she is being manipulated, or that she is manipulating herself. Others see her as a prophet when she’s not like a saviour. It’s a real roller coaster ride.
I’ll leave you to judge for yourself, considering that my opinion on this matter is of little interest. After all, long live freedom of expression!
