When we become aware of passing time
Did you try yesterday’s experiment https://coachdanny.ca/2019/08/28/solomotivation-wednesdaymotivation-22/? What did you discover? It’s interesting, no? To give an example, dividing your hours into 4 gives you blocks of 15 minutes. You have therefore multiplied your time slots by 4. It may sound ridiculous because the total remains the same, but let’s have a look at the reasoning behind it. Humans like to be able to see into the future. Not being able to predict the future creates an uncomfortable sense of stress which most people find difficult to live with. Humans also have a maximum average capacity to manage several things at the same time, for a particular common purpose. Take organising school schedules, which includes students, teachers, the premises, materials, and many other factors.
Time management has a certain complexity, and humans prefer simplicity, which inevitably conserves our energy. Compartmentalising to make life easier is generally a winning strategy. This reduces the likelihood of having to overlap tasks and the necessity to mentally manage them. So, if segmentation is good in a pantry, why not apply this to time? This is exactly what blocks of time management do.
