#EmployeeAppreciationDay

When employee is a vague concept

This tag caught my attention today. My first thought was: “Who do we appreciate today?” I think it requires a moment to compute about it. That concept of employee was never vague as it is today. Self-employed, co-op, startups, freelance, are all concepts that blend together in the business world. I would say that the first person we need to tell we do appreciate is our self. This will open the path to self-esteem that is quite important. But if we are stuck to the previous layers, the belonging one for example, should we wait for our colleagues to share with us their appreciation of us to believe we are doing great? Consider that an appreciation of someone else involves: 1. To consider if our appreciation standard is correctly set to apply it to someone else results. 2. To consider if our own appreciation of our results fits with our own set of values. This second point is quite important as doing something great for others but that you cannot appreciate by yourself can lead to some internal conflicts. In all cases, I would replace this tag with #ColleagueAppreciationDay as it sounds to me more inclusive.
